Analysis of cyclones and their economic impacts: two measurement campaigns by drone in the Indian Ocean
The National Meteorological Research Centre (CNRM, Météo-France/CNRS) and the Atmosphere and Cyclones Laboratory (LACy, Météo-France/CNRS/University of Reunion Island) launched a campaign of meteorological measurements by drone from Reunion while cyclone Joaninha was making its way through the Indian Ocean. A first campaign had already been conducted in February 2019. These campaigns are part of two research projects: ReNovRisk, a major research programme to analyse the hazards associated with tropical cyclones and their impacts on the economic development of the region; and Miriad, which aims to develop a drone-acquisition system in the lower atmosphere.
