Strengthening our complementarities for security and business continuity

In support of decisions on the prevention and management of natural risks, Météo-France provides strategic support to national civil and military authorities to ensure the safety of people and property and the management of natural, health and technological risks. The institution is strengthening its cooperation with numerous weather-sensitive sectors, such as transport, water and energy.

Météo-France and Civil Security renew their framework agreement

Météo-France and the Directorate General for Civil Security and Crisis Management (DGSCGC) have renewed their cooperation for 6 years by signing a new framework agreement. The latter explains the terms of the partnership between Météo-France and the Ministry of the Interior for the exercise of its missions in terms of the safety of people and property. In particular, it specifies the provisions of the objectives and performance contract signed between the State and Météo-France for the period 2017-2021 in the DGSCGC's fields of competence. This agreement was drawn up in a spirit of strengthening the adequacy between the operational services provided by Météo-France and the changing needs of Civil Security.

Météo-France and the Armed Forces Staff sign a new framework agreement

A new five-year framework agreement was signed with the Armed Forces Staff on 6 May 2019. This new agreement covers all areas of cooperation between Météo-France and the armed forces, wherever they are deployed in the world. In particular, it provides that Météo-France, in conjunction with the Joint Forces Meteorological and Oceanographic Support Centre (CISMF), will make meteorological data and products available to the armed forces and will provide the military in operation with forecasting tools, specific software and the services and expertise required for operational command. Météo-France is also responsible for training French army personnel in meteorology.

CCR and Météo-France combine their expertise on climate events: analysing cyclones and their economic impacts

During the National Natural Risk Conference 2019, the Caisse Centrale de Réassurance (CCR - Central Reinsurance Fund) and Météo-France renewed their partnership for modelling extreme weather events and their impact on insured damage. This collaboration, which has resulted in numerous joint publications, including one on the financial consequences of climate change for the risks of flooding, drought and marine submersion by 2050, is extended for the next 6 years.

Météo-France and IRSN renew their framework partnership agreement for 6 years

On 19 April 2019, Météo-France and the Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire (IRSN - Institute for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety) signed the renewal of the framework partnership agreement between the two organisations. This new agreement makes it possible to meet the high demands in terms of nuclear safety and better serve the public authorities. It provides for the continuation of actions to improve the exchange of data and services in the field of radiological environmental monitoring. The convention also confirms the continuation of the study, research and development programmes already underway on subjects of common interest such as extreme weather conditions and atmospheric dispersion models.
